Ping Cao

President

Robert Half Management Resources – Vice President

Ping’s background is in Big 4 Accounting (EY and KPMG), and he brings over 15 years of corporate tax and finance management experience plus 6 years of client service and business development. He currently serves clients across industries, including financial services, healthcare, insurance, software, manufacturing, media, pharmaceutical, telecommunication, and not-for-profit.

Ping serves as Vice President for Robert Half’s accounting and finance consulting division, Management Resources. Within this role, externally, he works with executive clients in the areas of accounting and finance on their senior-level hiring needs. Internally, he manages client relationships, marketing, and the implementation of strategies for revenue growth, as well as the development and execution of key strategic initiatives for his team’s operations.

Ping is passionate about giving back to the community and is an active board member and volunteer of various local and national nonprofit organizations. He is also a mentor to students at Drexel, Penn State, Rutgers, and Temple and guides students in terms of their studies and internship opportunities.

Ping grew up in Philadelphia, and he is a graduate of Drexel University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Finance at Drexel University, and he also has a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Business Management from the Keller Management School of Business. Ping is fluent in Cantonese and proficient in Mandarin. Ping met his wife on their first day of college. They live in Bucks County with their two children and their dogs, Max and Cody.

Drawing on over 25 years of corporate accounting and finance leadership experience, she is committed to building long-term relationships and helping individuals, families, and business owners reach their financial goals. Prior to founding Evergreen Financial Partners, Cindy served as the chief financial officer (CFO) of mid-size privately held companies, where she focused on protecting assets, managing risks and securing the company’s financial future. She has demonstrated success in building relationships and positioning enterprises for continued growth. Cindy was previously awarded CFO of the Year for medium-size companies by the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Born in Hong Kong, Cindy is fluent in Chinese. She has strong ties to Philadelphia where she attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, began her career in Public Accounting, and earned her CPA designation.

Passionate about giving back to the community, Cindy co-founded the Greater Philadelphia Cantonese Academy, a not-for-profit Chinese language school based in Rosemont, PA and has served on its board for over 15 years. Cindy has served on the board of professional organizations and mentored young professionals and college students.

Cindy lives with her husband in Delaware County where they raised three children. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, doing outdoor activities, and traveling.

Greenwood CRE – Practice Partner

Tommy serves as a Practice Partner working with Brian Edmonds in the Greenwood CRE Philadelphia office. He possesses over eleven years of experience, with the last eight in exclusive Tenant Representation and Corporate Services Advisory. Day to day, Tommy advises his corporate clients in leasing, acquiring, and disposing of commercial real estate assets. 

A licensed and seasoned corporate real estate professional, Tommy focuses on Corporate Services for office and industrial tenant representation, property dispositions/acquisitions, portfolio management, and long-term strategic planning. His experience also includes advisory in the new FASB & IASB lease accounting standards that will be taking effect at the end of 2021 for private companies (amended Q4 2020).

Professionally, he was nominated and awarded 40 Under 40 by AL DIA News Media for the class of 2021.

Tommy is a graduate of Temple University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. During his undergraduate studies, he was a member of the Men’s Lacrosse Team.

Tommy is multilingual, fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, and has dual citizenship in the US and Hong Kong.

Kevin grew up in Philadelphia and attended Penn State University, earning both a bachelor’s degree and MBA. He has over a decade of sales and marketing experience in the financial, industrial gas, and bio-pharma industries. He has specialized in collaborating with executive teams on strategy development and solving complex business problems. Currently, Kevin is a marketing manager at WuXi AppTec supporting the Advanced Therapy Unit. Kevin is passionate about diversity and inclusion. Over a decade ago, he co-founded a non-profit mentorship program that serves a local elementary school where most of the students are from first-generation immigrant families, here in Philadelphia. He remains an active mentor in the non-profit. Prior to joining WuXi AppTec, he co-founded and chaired an ERG for Asian American employees at Air Products. Kevin lives with his beautiful wife and two boys in Huntingdon Valley PA.

Yi has lived most of his life in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from Central High School and studied Accounting and Economics at Temple University. He proceeded to work in Public Accounting (Grant Thornton) where he earned his CPA. He continued his corporate career at Comcast, working in the accounting group for the first 3 years and then moving into Finance Operations (6+years). He currently lives in Montgomery County with his wife and two children.

Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health – Director for Community Engagement and Supplier Diversity

Bridgett Battles leads community engagement for Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health – a major anchor institution in Greater Philadelphia. Jefferson is the fifth largest employer and the provider of the largest number of hospital beds in the region. She plays a key role in building Jefferson’s relationships with community organizations and partners.

Bridgett leads conversations on supplier diversity with Jefferson’s external stakeholders. An essential part of her role is to collaborate and cultivate meaningful relationships that impact and improve the lives of the diverse communities Jefferson serves through engagement in workforce readiness, celebrating small businesses and acting as a resource for health and welfare.

In collaboration with Jefferson’s Supply Chain Department, Bridgett launched Supply Chain Connect to offer diverse potential suppliers the opportunity to pitch their business virtually, and get help in preparing their presentations. Jefferson’s Supplier Diversity program is designed to connect more minority, women, veteran, persons with disabilities, and LGBT-owned small businesses to opportunities at Jefferson.

Solomon Kim is a Vice President, Financial Advisor, Senior Portfolio Manager, and Insurance Planning Director with Morgan Stanley.  Solomon joined Morgan Stanley in 2013.  He graduated with a B.A.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.  Solomon values a holistic approach to financial management with a focus on understanding the relationship between clients, their families, and their finances. 

Solomon started his financial career in 1999 working for PBHG Funds in Chesterbrook, PA.  He transitioned to First Union Bank in 2001 and held various roles including branch manager.  He was recruited to Allianz Life as they launched a new broker dealer, US Allianz Securities.  There he helped to establish the broker dealer’s presence in the Mid-Atlantic region and spearheaded its Multicultural programs.  After a consolidation of all operations to Minnesota, Solomon left US Allianz Securities and joined a boutique life insurance practice working with complex insurance solutions and structuring large insurance portfolios.  Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Solomon ran his own successful life insurance practice. 

Solomon serves on the board of the Korean American Association of Greater Philadelphia, on the advisory board of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia and is active in the nonprofit community. He is an active member of his church where he serves as an Elder. He lives in Blue Bell, PA with his wife, Betsey, and their three children, Joshua, Hannah, and James.

“Miriam has over 12 years of experience as a data, analytics, and automation specialist in the Digital Risk Solutions practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She specializes in providing insight into challenges that client face today. Utilizing the latest tools in data mining, visualization, and robotics, she helps clients explore data and easily digest complex information. She provides clients a path to repeatable solutions, self-service BI, and standardized data methodologies that can be leveraged across platforms. Miriam has helped clients across multiple industries develop strategic long-term data analytics vision, implement repeatable procedures through automation that improves productivity and reduces costs, construct key performance metric definition and reporting, and address compliance with handling of high risk and sensitive data.

As a recipient of the United Way 2017 Women’s Leadership Initiative Next Generation Leader Award, Miriam serves as the Philadelphia Pan Asian Community leader and Risk Assurance Women’s Committee Program Leader at PwC. She sits on the Board Development Committee for Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania and Executive Committee for National Association of Asian American Professionals Philadelphia Chapter. Miriam graduated from Pennsylvania State University Smeal School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems.”

Shawn was one of the founding committee leads for Asian Pacific Americans employee resource group and currently serves as the APA Lead. Joel Catindig is a creative leader with twenty plus years of experience in design and visual communications. Most recently manager of internal communications and engagement at Independence, Joel provides oversight of internal communications across the family of companies. Joel actively supports the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts and is a co-founder of imPACT, the Asian American Pacific Islander business resource group. He serves as a board advisor for the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia and serves as an officer for the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) Philadelphia Chapter. Joel had previously worked at Cendant Corporation, a business and consumer services company, in various creative roles, supporting such brands as Avis, Budget, Wyndham Worldwide, Century 21 Real Estate, and Cheap Tickets. Sunny currently sits on the Strategic Advisory Group for Innovate Capital Growth Fund, a Philadelphia-based private equity fund focused on small and middle market minority-controlled businesses operating predominantly in the Mid-Atlantic region. David Chan

ECA Recruiters – Managing Partner

David’s career has primarily been in the healthcare industry in such roles as new business development, account management, customer relationship management and most recently both talent acquisition and career development. Graduating with his Bachelor’s degree, he was initially recruited to join Marion Laboratories, one of Fortune Magazine’s “America’s most admired companies” in a professional pharmaceutical sales career. After winning numerous regional and national sales awards, being selected as a regional trainer and management development candidate, he continued his career selling surgical implants and capital equipment for Allergan and Picker Medical to some of our nation’s most prestigious academic institutions and surgeons in the Philadelphia region. He transitioned his career to an executive recruiter over a decade ago joining ECA Recruiters, a firm with nearly four decades of history of placing sales people and sales managers nationwide. In this role, David has developed dozens of Fortune 500 and start up clients, placed hundreds of individuals in new careers throughout the nation and is often a confidant and resource to those individuals seeking career guidance. David is also a very active community leader. He’s a current board member of the National Association of Asian American Professionals, Philadelphia Chapter.

For over a decade, he’s also been a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America – Cradle of Liberty Council holding many roles, including an executive board member, Council Advancement Committee Chairman and an Assistant Scoutmaster. David also volunteers his time coaching community based baseball and football youth programs.

Ed Empaynado

Edwin A. Empaynado

Edwin Empaynado is Board Certified in General Surgery, Board Certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners and has been in private practice in the South Jersey area for the past 15 years. His focus of interest has been in minimally invasive surgery for the diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the colon. Ed has serviced the South Jersey population with surgical privileges at Virtua Health System, Jefferson Health South Jersey, and Centennial Surgical Center. He is an active member of the Virtua Health Performance Improvement Committee and has been involved with Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine General Surgery Residency Program. Edwin has previously been recognized by his peers through SJ MagazineNew Jersey Monthly, and Healthy Living Magazine with “Top Doc” honors in his specialty.

Edwin is a managing partner in Advocare Colon and Rectal Surgical Specialists, a subdivision of Advocare, LLC, where he is the Care Center Vice President of two office locations in South Jersey. Ed is also active at the corporate level of Advocare, LLC, an independent, physician owned and governed multi-specialty medical organization with a footprint throughout New Jersey and Philadelphia metro area. He is currently a member of the Advocare Governance Committee and Board of Managers, as well as a former member of the Market Development Committee.

Edwin received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University Eberly College of Science, where he also served as a teaching assistant in the Departments of Physiology and Histology. He earned a Medical Doctorate degree from UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ and completed a General Surgery internship/residency program at UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, NJ. He pursued additional Fellowship training in the subspecialty of Colon and Rectal Surgery as a Fellow at Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown, PA.

Ed was born in the Philippines and grew up in Central New Jersey. He currently resides in South Jersey with his wife and two boys for the past 15 years and enjoys sports, food, and travel.

Comcast – Vice President Human Resources – Organizational Capability

Alice is currently a Vice President of Human Resources focusing on Organizational Capability for Comcast Cable Headquarters in Philadelphia. In this role Alice is focused on organizational design, structure and optimization of the workforce by linking business strategies to the people processes and people interactions that accelerate collation and drive organizational effectiveness.

Prior to this role Alice was the Human Resources Business Partner for Cable HQ Content Acquisitions, Finance, Human Resources, and Military Affairs where she designed people strategies across these teams through talent management planning, diversity strategies and succession planning.

Alice also spent time leading HR for Comcast Spectacor whose core businesses include the Wells Fargo Center arena and complex, as well as a portfolio of professional sports teams that include the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers. Additionally, Alice led HR for Spectra, a Hospitality firm specializing in Venue Management, Food Services & Hospitality.

Alice was born in Taipei, Taiwan before her family immigrated to the United States. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and has been in the Philadelphia area for almost 20 years.

Ari Karpf

Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti, P.C. – Managing Partner

Ari Karpf is the managing partner of a multi-office law firm overseeing litigation in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He is based in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He is licensed by the highest Courts in each of these three states, and he is also licensed to practice before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and four other district courts.

Ari’s legal focus throughout his career has been in the areas of employment and civil rights litigation. While continually representing corporations during his legal career, he has primarily represented individuals. Common areas in which he litigates include but are not limited to: class-action wage litigation, executive and business-related contracts, corporate compliance and OSHA violations, WARN Act violations, discrimination, wrongful termination, whistleblowing, FMLA, ERSIA, labor regulations, and on a select basis, litigation against municipalities, police departments, or governmental agencies for violations of individual civil rights. He also regularly appears before agencies such as the Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, National Labor Relations Board, and the Division of Civil Rights.

Ari is a very accomplished trial attorney, and he has tried many cases as co- or lead-counsel throughout the tri-state area in state and federal courts. He currently serves as a co-coordinator of the Public Interest Panel for the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Therein, he serves as a mentor to attorneys in the greater-Philadelphia area seeking guidance or experience in the areas of civil rights and employment law(s) and assists coordinating pro-bono representation.

Ari is also a frequent author and lecturer. He typically authors publications for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (“PBI”) several times per year, and he frequently lectures at Continuing Legal Education seminars. He also has and continues to speak about corporate legal considerations, best business practices, and substantive legal issues at events hosted by the Society for Human Resources Management (“SHRM”). He has also been a guest speaker about corporate legal matters for the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association and at Rowan University.

Peggy Kelly joined Spectrum, A Certified Herman Miller Dealer, in March 2013 as President. Spectrum takes an innovative approach that transforms office workspaces. Before Spectrum, she came from Herman Miller, a leading furniture design firm based in Michigan where she spent three years, most recently as Vice President, Global Seating. Here she obtained experience setting direction for the seating division from inception of products globally to design and development to sales launch, marketing and sell through strategies for seating portfolio. Peggy has a proven track record building new organizations, achieving bottom-line results and developing talent. Peggy currently resides in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Subarna Malakar is the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for Sanofi North America. He is also a member of the North America H.R. Leadership team and an Advisory Member of the U.S. and Canadian Executive Diversity and Inclusion Councils for Sanofi.

In his current role, Subarna builds the D&I foundation and lead a comprehensive and measurable diversity, equity and inclusion strategy integrated with the overall business and talent strategies. He drives D&I strategy and initiatives to embrace and leverage diversity within the organization, support Sanofi’s diverse patient and customer base and achieve the Company’s global diversity and inclusion vision. 

Prior to Sanofi, he was with FMC Corporation, a leading agricultural sciences company, where he was Global Diversity & Inclusion Officer. He has more than 25 years of professional experience with 14 years in diversity, equity & inclusion, corporate responsibility, culture change management, and organizational and talent development, working for global companies including Ahold Delhaize, Thomson Reuters, Unilever, and Sodexo. 

Subarna holds an MBA from Temple University: Fox School of Business, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, and a Certificate in Leadership Academy from Harvard University.

Subarna is a U.S. Army veteran and currently lives in New Jersey with his wife and daughter.

Tracey Nguyen

Baker Tilly Capital – Principal

Tracey Nguyen is a Principal at Baker Tilly Capital, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, a top 15 accounting and advisory firm. Tracey leads Baker Tilly’s Real Estate Project Finance practice in the East Region and she specializes in tax credits and incentives, including Opportunity Zones, New Markets Tax Credits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and state and local incentives. Tracey is also a member of Baker Tilly’s National Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging for Success (DIBS) Steering Committee.

Prior to joining Baker Tilly, Tracey was a senior vice president with a commercial real estate development firm and private equity real estate fund, where she was responsible for strategic planning and implementing corporate growth initiatives, as well as sourcing, structuring and executing debt and equity financing, and overseeing asset management for the firm’s portfolio. Previously, Tracey was a partner at Cozen O’Connor, an Am Law 100 law firm in Philadelphia, where she focused her practice on commercial real estate and represented institutional and private investors, developers, REITs, lenders and borrowers in all matters of real estate, including acquisition, development, management, financing, leasing and sale. Tracey began her career in public accounting and also successfully completed the Pennsylvania CPA exam.

Tracey frequently presents nationally on the topics related to Opportunity Zones, Affordable Housing, and Community Development. She has been recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a “40 under 40” winner and by Smart CEO Magazine as a Brava Award winner, which celebrates high-impact female business leaders.

WuXi Advanced Therapies – Global Head of Commercial Operations

Min Park is Global Head of Commercial Operations at WuXi Advanced Therapies and is responsible for leading all aspects of global commercial operations marketing and sales efforts. He has over 20 years of experience in the life sciences industry – spanning small molecule, large molecule, innovative technologies, and cutting-edge cell and gene therapies – across progressively senior levels of responsibility in marketing, business development, and executive leadership. With a history of notable successes in managing growth-focused global teams, he has a proven command of marketing, sales force effectiveness, marketing/sales integration, product and brand management, and strategy. Previous to joining WuXi Advanced Therapies, he held senior roles at Abzena, Catalent, Samsung Biologics, DSM, PDI, and Warner-Lambert. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Business Administration in Marketing from Montclair State University, and is bilingual in English and Korean.

Executive Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity & Community Engagement Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health

Lisette Martinez leads Jefferson’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to ensure excellence in education, research and patient care. Since starting at Jefferson in May 2020, she has led the first comprehensive strategic plan for diversity in the institution’s 196-year history. That plan includes a 30% goal for diversity in leadership, dialogue-building initiatives, resource centers for students, professional development, and a supplier mentorship program.

From developing results-oriented diversity and inclusion programs, to building strong relationships with community organizations and government agencies, Martinez works to ensure that all parts of Jefferson reflect the diverse cultures it serves.

Working closely with Jefferson’s President and CEO, Dr. Stephen Klasko, she has been at the forefront of Jefferson’s response to issues of racial inequity, while nurturing an environment of dialogue and growth within the organization.

Prior to Joining Jefferson she was Yale New Haven Health System’s Inaugural Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. Before joining Yale, Lisette Martinez was the System Director of Diversity and Language Services at TriHealth.

Lisette has been a board member of Girls Scouts of CT and also New Haven Works. She was previously a board member of the Greater Cincinnati Community Action Agency. She was also a board member of the Diversity Advisory Council for the Cincinnati Reds.

Lisette is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Lisette was the recipient of the 2016 top 100 under 50 Executive Leaders award by Diversity MBA magazine and was a Forty under 40 awardee in 2012. She was one of the first women in Cincinnati to receive the Women of Influence Award by Lead Magazine in 2013. Most recently she was honored by Major League Baseball with the SEAT 21 award that recognizes individuals who embody the humanitarian spirit of Roberto Clemente.

Lisette graduated with Delta Epsilon Sigma honors from Thomas More University with an MBA in May of 2006; and received her BBA from the University of Cincinnati in August of 1996. She has one daughter, Giselle Sophia, 22 who is a graduate student at American University in Washington D.C. Lisette is a native of Detroit, Michigan and of Puerto Rican descent, speaks fluent Spanish and is in love with her culture. She is always proud to share her Puerto Rican heritage with everyone she meets; and enjoys cooking her famous arroz con habichuelas (rice & beans) for her friends and family.

Cindy is currently the Chief Financial Officer for Coho Partners, Ltd. where she is responsible for executing the company’s financial strategy and overseeing all aspects of its financial operations. With 23 years in the financial industry, Cindy has experience in finance and accounting operations and reporting, M&A, corporate restructurings, digital transformation, product development, and due diligence programs. She previously worked at Valley Forge Capital Management, Aberdeen Standard Investments, TIFF Advisory Service, Inc. and Ernst & Young, LLP.

Cindy also serves as a board member and finance committee chair for the Wilma Theater, is a founding board member of the Greater Philadelphia chapter of Ascend, and a founding board member of the Women in Investing Network.

Pamela Zee

AstraZeneca – Head of the Cardiovascular Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) Pediatric Center of Excellence

Dr. Pamela Zee leads the Cardiovascular Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) Pediatric Center of Excellence for AstraZeneca. She is a clinical development physician leader and pediatric trial expert with over 14 years of drug development experience. As a cross functional matrix leader, Pam has made important contributions to the development of products spanning the immunoscience, metabolics, renal and cardiovascular therapeutic areas.

Pam earned her B.A. and M.D. degrees at Vassar College and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), respectively. After an internal medicine residency, she built an academic clinical practice as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ for almost 10 years before joining the pharmaceutical industry.
